For centuries, saffron has been one of the world's most treasured botanicals. Known as "red gold," saffron comes from the delicate crimson stigmas of the Crocus sativus flower, each one carefully harvested by hand.
In Greece, the most famous saffron comes from Kozani, a region whose climate and soil create some of the finest saffron in the world. The harvest takes place each autumn, when thousands of purple blossoms briefly cover the fields before their crimson threads are gathered by hand.
It takes roughly 150,000 flowers to produce just one kilogram of dried saffron, making it one of the most labor-intensive botanicals on earth.
Why Saffron Has Been Valued for Generations
Throughout history, saffron has been used in traditional beauty rituals, culinary traditions, and herbal preparations across the Mediterranean and beyond.
Today, researchers continue to study saffron's naturally occurring compounds, including crocin, crocetin, and safranal, which contribute to its antioxidant properties.

How We Use Saffron in KLOTHÓ
At AGNODICE, we take a simple approach.
Rather than using a manufactured saffron fragrance or colorant, we slowly macerate genuine Greek Kozani Red Saffron in olive oil.
The saffron threads are immersed in olive oil and allowed to infuse over time using a cold-process method. This gentle approach preserves the character of both the olive oil and the saffron while creating a rich botanical infusion that becomes part of our KLOTHÓ Rejuvenating Face Serum.
No shortcuts.
No artificial color.
Just time, patience, and carefully selected ingredients.
A Connection Between Nature and Myth
KLOTHÓ is inspired by the Greek Fate who spun the thread of life.
The inclusion of saffron feels especially fitting. Each thread is harvested by hand, one at a time, before being slowly woven into the serum through the infusion process.
It's a small detail, but one that reflects our philosophy: thoughtful ingredients, traditional methods, and respect for the stories behind them.
